Have you ever thought that our perceptions are heavily influenced by our past experiences, memories, and belief systems. In this video Bhante explains how unaware we are of our own craziness because everyone around us sees the world the same way.

When someone asks, “who are you?”, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? For me, it’s my name. But how do we know our name? It has been given to us by our parents and we’ve used it since our birth without question. How do we know we’re living in Australia or any specific country? How do we perceive time, personal space, or even colours? These all can vary significantly depending on the ideas or beliefs rooted in cultural or social contexts. It’s hard to believe that What we perceive isn’t always the truth but often shaped by the ideas fed by someone in the world. Isn’t it? 🤔

But what if everyone on earth is seeing things the wrong way and how would we even know? Are we able to self-realise that our perceptions are right or wrong? How’s going to help us? Bhante explains here that this is where the Buddha’s teachings come in. It guides us to understand the nature of perception and help us realise the layers that shape our view of reality, opening the path to deeper self-awareness and liberation “Nibbāna”.

Have you ever felt this way? Any thoughts? 🙂

Some ideas can be so harmful passed down from generation to generation such as those living in conflict areas or war zones. The surrounding environment they live in confirms their ideas. The hatred only grows along with suffering. If I were in such situation, I would need someone else to show me compassion first before I could extend the same to others. So no, only a very special person can self realise and see the reality as it is and only a very special person can think to also save others.
